On Sunday 2nd March 2008, Rob Little and Simon Moore; activists from We Are
Change UK penetrated the security of the Guildhall building on Parliament Square
Westminster, opposite the house of commons, and scaled a 250ft crane. At
approximately 2am on Monday, Little and Moore unfurled large banners reading
"Referendum Now, and Give Us Our Vote" in reference to the vote in the house of
commons on whether to give the UK public a vote on the Treaty of Lisbon, which
if ratified will transfer large amounts of power to the European Union and also
pave the way for greater transfers of power in the future.
Acting in the
belief that a referendum is a democratic necessity, Little and Moore were able
to evade police and private security in one of the most CCTV’d places on
the planet.
The protest ended on Tuesday morning at 9.30 AM when Little and Moore came down the crane to a welcome party of specialist police officers where they were arrested and taken to a nearby police station.
“You cannot give away the peoples power without their consent” Moore said during an interview with journalists - “This is a question of democracy”. Rob Little showed courage and conviction as he unfurled a banner in a force four gale at 3.30am, telling police liason officers that the pair had supplies and would be there for “a while”.
The direct action was in response to a complete media blackout on the story of the EU Treaty and the referendum issue. We have a feeling it wont be the last time we hear from these characters on political issues!

Simon from We Are Change UK gets arrested for demonstrating within the SOCPA Zone in London.
The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 (SOCPA) was introduced into the House of Commons on 24 November 2004 and was passed by Parliament and given Royal Assent in April 2005.
The Act is controversial primarily for an additional, entirely unrelated provision, which restricts the right to demonstrate within an exclusion zone of up to one kilometre from any point in Parliament Square. Demonstrators have to apply to the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police six days in advance, or if this is not reasonably practicable then no less than 24 hours in advance. No equivalent provision is made for any other Parliament in the United Kingdom.
In October 2007, the Home Office published a public consultation document, Managing Protest Around Parliament [5], which 'takes another look at sections 132-138 (of SOCPA) and explores whether there is another way to address the situation that would both uphold the right to protest while also giving police the powers they need to keep the peace'. Campaigners are worried that this document contains new threats to freedom of assembly and the right to protest in that is suggests that there could be 'harmonisation of powers to manage marches and assemblies' throughout the UK.

Members of We Are Change UK attended the QPR vs Burnley football game on 12 February 2008 to protest against Alastair Campbell, who is a lifelong Burnley fan and was in the crowd.
Burnley season ticket holder Alastair Campbell served as Director of Communications and Strategy for Tony Blair from 1997 to 2003. He also played a major part in selling the illegal war in Iraq to the British public.
It has been estimated that over 1 million people have been killed in the conflict.
It appears that for him some sufferers from the disease are more important than others. The number of Iraqi children with leukaemia, which rose alarmingly in the 1990's after the Gulf War in 1990, has continued to climb.
Many people, both inside and outside Iraq, believe the use of depleted uranium munitions by the allied powers in the Gulf war, and again in the invasion of 2003, is to blame. The evidence that US and UK weapons are creating a deadly legacy for the people in Iraq is growing.
Alastair Campbell, as New Labour's unelected Minister of Propaganda, shares the responsibility for this suffering.

Press Conference,
Room C, 1 Parliament Street (just off Parliament Square)
Tuesday 15th January 2008 3pm
John McDonnell MP and members of the Campaign to Make War History will brief MPs and the media on allegations of war crimes committed against the people of Iraq by Britain's former Prime Minister and former Attorney General.
Officers from Scotland Yard have commenced a criminal investigation into the deaths of Iraqi citizens killed during the armed invasion and occupation of Iraq. The Metropolitan Police are acting in response to crimes reported by peace activists from We Are Change UK and The Campaign to Make War History. In an unprecedented step, the case was handed to the War Crimes division of the Counter Terrorism branch who are now investigating allegations of 14 criminal offences committed by Tony Blair, Lord Goldsmith and others. The offences are under the International Criminal Court Act 2001, which came into effect under English common law, just two days before 9/11.
Two Members of We Are Change UK and a representative from the Campaign to Make War History were interviewed for six hours at Belgravia Police station on the 20th December 2007. Evidence was provided to the police relating to the crimes of:-
• genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and conduct ancillary to these crimes under Sections 51 and 52 of The International Criminal Court Act 2001.
• a crime against peace and complicity in a crime against peace under Articles 6 and 7 of The Nuremburg Principles.
• murder, incitement to murder and conspiracy to murder under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
• conspiracy to commit genocide, a crime against humanity and war crimes under the Criminal Law Act 1977.
Details of the alleged breaches of international treaties and violations of the laws of war will be provided at the meeting.
